When construction crews on the Arizona Canal ran into bedrock in 1884, the builders did not want to delay the construction to blast it out. The 2003 WaterWorks project combines public open space with a modernization of the hydroelectric plant, first installed in 1902. One early feature restored in the project was a neighborhood dance floor above the falls.
