Common disaster

From the draft of my last will & testament:

Article 13: Common disaster: In the event my husband and I shall die as a result of a common disaster, or under such circumstances that it cannot be determined which of us died first, it is my will that, and in such event, my husband shall be determined to have survived me.

In computer science, they would call this "setting the bit" but it is a disturbing concept to declare that I die first. In case no one notices when the raft on Nahani takes a tumble, or we are struck by lightening in the on a mountain somewhere. My sister says "You crack me up! Of all things that may happen, eaten by a bear wouldn't be the first thing that I would have thought of." It was one of the first risks I thought of when we embarked on this project. Look forward to the Shoshone Lake trip report next weekend!

uncle bill:

In the unlikely event that you and Robert, simultaneously, are eaten by a bear wouldn't it be more loving if you assumed he pre-deceased you so that he might have the comfort of knowing he was mourned...if only for a moment?

Give your Mom a hug for me.

Love,

B
