Car Show Preview

chevy body corvette

Bill Barnes in Ogden invited me to come shoot his newest baby at the first car show of the season. I met Bill at Bonneville last year, and we hooked up again at Peach Days last fall, so when he called, I knew it would be worth my while to go out in the snow and take a look while they were setting up the show.

Bill does Corvettes; this one is a Corvette: A Corvette frame with a body spiritually modeled on a 55 Chevy. Bill built each component of the body himself, mimicking the beautiful lines of the '55, chopping and raking to honor the Corvette's flow, creating something entirely new. That's a '55 hood ornament. Next comes the task of hand filling the gaps in the metal, then the finish work. R said he was in love L-U-V, but I told him to forget it.

This one's for Bryan, who couldn't join us. It's a Shelby Cobra redo by Kirkham Motorsports. The aluminum body was crafted by aeronautics machinists in Poland. R comes from a large family of Polish craftsmen and was dutifully respectful of the accomplishment. We saw some other wild stuff, and we would never have gotten out of there if Bryan had gone on the adventure.
