Cold but willing subjects (f8, 1.0 sec, ISO 400, Noise Ninja)
R's side of the family sent its delegation for Thanksgiving, and we trundled them off to Temple Square to see the lights on Friday. Despite the cold, they were willing to pose for a few photos.
Some other family's kid who had to be in my picture.
I had a few words for this boy, who decided that he needed to literally leap into our family photo. No parents took responsibility for their little angel; we pushed on.
Colder, but still willing (f 5.6, 0.9 sec, ISO 400, Exposure Compensation -1)
As we left the house, I loaded up my new messenger bag from Timbuk2 with the gear I wanted for these images: 2 Pocket Wizards, a Nikon SB800 and my Canon G9. I am pleased to report that my extra small bag held all that stuff, plus regular wallet-keys-cell phone stuff, and a nerf-ball sized Christmas gift I picked up at the Planetarium. I also grabbed the manual for the G9, and in the car set up the flash for slow sync, rear curtain triggering. I knew images made with a shutter drag can be interesting enough to cajole even a teenager into smiling.
One thing that sold me on this camera was the ability to use the Pocket Wizards and my already paid for Nikon strobes. I didn't record the manual settings on the flash, somewhere around 1/2 to 1/4. The settings were derived from chimping as crowds of people passed between with me and my subjects, as I'm standing about 8-10 feet away. A tripod in the crush would have been lunancy. I could have made a lot more pictures, but the folks from Texas said it was cold, so we packed it up and went to Faustina for dinner finale to a happy holiday visit.

Cold? You bet! Worth it...of course. Was one of the best nights of the year for me. Thanks for the memories, Ann.
