Today I did something I’ve never done before: spoke at a public meeting of elected officials. I asked to speak to the county commissioners about the economic potential of a food destination and agritourism initiative. I said I’d keep it to five slides. I brought 6; there were too many opportunities to fit onto one slide. Even then, I suspect I barely scratched the surface of what can be done here in Wayne County.
I can’t tell you how many people I know who come here because of the recreation and the dining. Why go to Bryce Canyon or Arches when you can come to Capitol Reef, deal with fewer crowds, do interesting things and eat well? Part of my message to the county commissioners is that this is true today and only becoming more true. We just need to say it, support it, and talk about it with everyone we know.
